Mr Tulk Cafe

We needed somewhere for a quick breakfast in the city. I love the State Library and this right there. It was about nine and we got a seat straight away. The staff had our coffee order within minutes. Super friendly atmosphere. A mix of friends catching up, colleagues conspiring and workers finishing presentations on laptops. We both had poached eggs on toast. A big slice of toast. The eggs done spot on. The coffee was good. Highly recommend as a quick stop in your day.

Finally - found a Cafe in an iconic location (in the current economic inflation with shortage of hospitality staff) which serves good food with a smile without the massive Sun weekend surcharge & with ample servings at a reasonable price! Enjoyed your "Great Eggspectations"...Loved the quirky menu item names that befitted being part of the magnificent State Library of Vic. Thank you Mr Tulk for prompt friendly service staff, quality & quantity 👍🏼👍🏼. I hope you maintain the standard always...

I’ve been here a few times for a group booking, breakfast, grabbing a drink, etc! Most of these experiences have been pretty pleasant! The overall ambiance is fine. The pop music in the morning for a library themed café can be a bit much at times (jamming out to ke$ha while studying lol). The staff are generally super lovely and are often very patient! Had a staff member let me in around 15mins before closing to serve me a hot chocolate! :) The food can be a bit hit or miss, and it’s not a particularly fun gamble with the price. I find the drinks to be way too small for the prices, especially take away. The food is normally pretty tasty, but I was hoping for something a bit nicer for the price. Dishes such as the granola and the desserts in the cabinet are lovely! I’d definitely recommend eating in rather than takeaway options. Overall, this place is lovely but a few things don’t align super well (The clashing ambiance, prices, takeaway differences).

Located right behind the State Library, they serve a good selection of sandwiches, salads, and coffee. I came previously and tried their sandwiches, but I think they make better salads. I ordered the Tuna Salad, served with lemon mayo, boiled eggs, radish leaves, capers & croutons. I found it to be well presented and delicious. I also enjoyed their Reuben sandwich. They don't have much to offer in terms of coffee, which I found to be average. A good place to read a book and have a quick lunch.
